E-ink

E-ink describes a type of display that is high contrast and doesn't require power to maintain state. E-ink doesn't use any sort of backlight naively, making text more readable and eases potential eye strain. While there are a variety of technologies behind e-ink, the basic premise remains the same: pieces of e-ink have a dark side and a light side, with magnets or other methods being used to toggle between the states.

Currently, E-ink displays are used primarily in ebook readers, where primarily text is displayed. The technology isn't yet mature enough to refresh states quickly, nor are the displays profundly cost effective, making ebooks an effective avenue to introduce the technology.
