DVD-RW
A DVD-RW (not to be confused with DVD+RW) is a type of recordable DVD that can be written on multiple times. Unlike most recordable formats, DVD-RWs use a type of phase changing alloy rather than dye. A DVD-RW can be written about about 1000 times before losing its data retention, much like CD-RWs, and is commonly used for back-ups thanks to their large capacity. While they don't have as widespread support as DVD-Rs for players, they are supported by a significant portion of commercial players.
