DPI
DPI stands for dots per inch, a measurement of resolution usually applied to printers and scanners and more rarely to displays. The dots refer to the microscopic ink drops used by printers to form pictures and by scanners to read and upload image information. The number used to describe dpi is squared to show the actual number of dots in one square inch, so that 100 dpi equates to 10,000 dots. Printers most often range from 300 dpi to 1200 dpi, while more professional scanners and printers can produce 2400 dpi or higher.
