Dolby TrueHD

Dolby TrueHD is a lossless audio encoding technology developed by Dolby Labs. Enabling up to 7.1 channels of audio, the format was created specifically for high-definition disc media. Claiming to be identical to the studio master, the audio in Dolby TrueHD is encoded at up to 24-bit/96 kHz at a maximum bitrate of 18 Mbps. Audio data can be communicated through HDMI 1.3 in bitstream format, from the player as 6 to 8 analog outputs, and to the receiver in Linear PCM form. The technology was developed by Dolby labs in August of 2006, and the format is primed to become as significant to high definition content as its predecessors were to standard definition DVDs.
