DMCA
The Digital Millenium Copyright Act, or DMCA, is a United States copyright law that makes it illegal to distribute services or technology intended to circumvent methods of access control. It also makes it illegal to circumvent these methods of access control, whether there is copyright violation or not, and makes the penalities for copyright violation through the internet much more strict. Access controls commonly seen in the electronics industry are called Digital Rights Management, or DRM. DRM has caused several companies, most notably EA, problems with public relations in terms of how the DRM is implemented. A recent high-profile case involving the DMCA was the take-down of campaign videos for John McCain due to copyright notices filed by CBS and Fox.
