Cyber Monday

Cyber Monday is a sales event associated with the Monday after Thanksgiving in the United States. While many traditional, brick-and-mortar stores offer their discounts, deals and promotions on Black Friday, Cyber Monday has become a similar day for online retailers operating in the realm of e-commerce. Such businesses as Amazon or Overstock.com offer discounts and promote products, while many traditional companies advertise new deals through their online stores.

Cyber Monday was officially begun as a promotional idea by the National Retail Federation in 2005, to specifically target e-commerce opportunities. The offical Cyber Monday website is run by Shop.org, a part of the NRF.

According to reports, consumers spent $733 million dollars on 2007's Cyber Monday, and 2008 has seen an increase in both promotional activities and online participation from the previous year. 2008 deals include a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 for $299 and Blu-ray disks from Amazon for under $20. Other participating companies include Barnes&Noble, Best Buy, Nike, Office Depot, and Sony.
