Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

Component

Component typically refers to component video, wherein multiple colors (components) are assembled to create one picture signal, typically with more color depth and sharpness than a simple composite signal. While component video has been a mainstay in professional video for decades, component video in the consumer realm is now catching its stride. With the advent of HDTV, simple single signaled cables didn't provide enough video bandwidth to show an entire full color HD signal. Component video, typically divided up into red, green and blue, allows for three times the bandwidth, and can support resolutions up to 1080p.

HDMI and DisplayPort are the successors to component video, and are quickly taking a dominant place in the marketplace, since they are single cable solutions rather than three cables per device.
