Caching

Caching is a method of rapid data retrieval that uses temporary storage of commonly referenced items to speed up access time. In layman's terms, caching is when a processor or browser stores information temporarily and then accesses this information from temporary memory instead of permanent memory. Internet caching allows pages to load quicker and with less bandwidth usage, because the most common elements of the pages are stored on the user's local computer and do not need to be re-retrieved. Program caching allows for faster computer operation because common functions, inputs, or outputs of the program can be accessed frequently with minimal computing effort.
