Broadband

In personal tech, the word "broadband" is usually used to describe internet connections that allow for transmission of greater amounts of data than dial-up modem connections that transmit 56,000 bits per second (called 56k connections). Most modern, land-based internet connections fit into the broadband category: DSL, cable, and fiber optic services included. The term was used in marketing by the first ISDN, DSL, and cable internet companies to distinguish their products and to convince would-be customers that the connections were significantly faster.

Broadband can other uses too; for example, in radio signals and power lines. In those other cases it also usually means greater breadth of transmission.
