BMP
BMP is a digital image format. BMP files, otherwise known as bitmaps, can use any size palette up to 32 bits and store information with zero loss of quality. However, BMP has no default compression, which causes BMP files to be very large in most cases. BMPs are also restricted to still images and cannot store animations as the GIF format can. BMP is a widely known and used format thanks to its versatility and inclusion with Windows. BMP is the default file format that Microsoft Paint saves to, and is a good format for editing images as it has zero loss and compression, unlike GIFs or JPGs. However, for displaying images, another format is recommended, such as PNG or JPG.
