AVCHD

AVCHD is a recording format created by Sony and Panasonic in 2006 for use in tapeless video cameras. It's based, but not identical to, the Blu-ray video specification and uses the H.264 format to encode video and Dolby AC-3 for audio. AVCHD camcorders use a mix of DVD discs, memory cards, and hard disks, and both standard definition and HD video can be recorded with the format. AVCHD media can be played directly on some Blu-ray players, especially those manufactured by Sony and Panasonic.
