A/V Receiver
An A/V receiver is a device with routes video and audio signals from multiple sources and outputs the signals to compatible speakers and TVs. A/V receivers are the heart of a home theater setup, and as such can be expensive, ranging from several hundred dollars to $1,000 or more. A/V receivers have an array of inputs, typically varied between legacy analog formats like component, composite and S-Video, and newer digital formats like HDMI. Some less expensive receivers simply take input signals and switch them to an output, while more expensive receivers process and upconvert signals to create an optimum output.
