4G

4G is an abbreviation of Fourth-Generation. Also descrbed as Beyond 3G, 4G is a term referring to the next step in wireless communication. Just as the second generation of networks and handsets was a complete replacement of the initial system and, likewise, the 3G networks were a comprehensive evolution from the second, so also will the deployment of 4G entirely replace 3G networks and handsets. The expectation of the 4G system, projected for 2012-2015, includes an all-encompassing IP solution under which voice, data, and internet-based multimedia will be available to users at a higher data transfer rate than the current generation. The current assumptions regarding a 4G system involve a fully net-based integrated system, transfer speeds up to 1 Gbit/sec, and a distinctly secure network. The 4G working group has the defined objective of creating a system that will allow cooperation between seperate networks, such that they will establish a seamless connection that will allow users to enjoy roaming across different cellular networks througout the world. There are a number of companies claiming to have already established 4G networks such as the early trials and tests of WiMAX. However, without a set of accepted international standards with respect to the definition of 4G, it is folly for any company to make such unfounded claims.
