3D

3D imaging, or stereoscopy, is the process of adding depth to an image, so that it appears to exist in 3 dimensions while only existing in two. This is most often achieved by presenting the viewer with two slightly different images that are combined to create the 3D effect. A common way to show 3D movies is by playing two superimposed images at the same time through polarizing filters while wearing glasses that let only one image into each eye. A newer process uses the same idea but with different colors for each eye (red/green and bue), which allows for a less distorted picture when viewing the image without glasses but still provides a 3D effect with anaglyphic glasses. Certain HDTV manufacturers are also working on TV sets that produce the effect by showing two different image in two different directions, so that those sitting in the right spot perceive the image as three-dimensional without wearing glasses.
