120 Hz

A refresh rate of 120 Hz is a feature of certain LCD TVs. Twice as fast as the refresh rate of standard 60 Hz televisions, the 120 Hz refresh rate further reduces the motion blur of fast-motion video for an LCD display. In the realm of HDTVs, plasma and rear-projection televisions have response times so fast that they are not perceptibly susceptible to motion blur. Since 2007, consumer availability of the 120 Hz refresh rate allows televisions to display the output from Blu-ray players with a 24 fps (frames per second) signal with greater compliance than older displays. The 120 Hz displays, 120 being a multiple of both 30 and 24, will not provide users with the experience of the 3:2 pulldown, a phenomenon that occurs when a 24 fps signal is communicated to a 60 Hz display which causes a jumpy, "judder" effect.
