First released in North America and Japan on November 19, 2006, the Nintendo Wii is Nintendo's fifth foray into the world of consoles. The Wii's claim to fame is actually its controller, the Wii remote, which uses motion sensing technology. You can swing the controller like a tennis racquet to hit a virtual ball, point it like a gun, or wield it like a sword.

The Wii lacks some of the features of its competitors such as the ability to play DVDs, support for high definition resolutions, and an elaborate online multiplayer service, but that hasn't stopped it from crushing the competition in sales worldwide.

The system can support up to 4 Wii Remotes at one time as well as multiple Gamecube controllers, classic controllers, or other peripherals. It can play both Wii and Gamecube games, and has two download services: WiiWare and Virtual Console. Downloads and saved games are stored on an SD card.

Nintendo announced to retailers that on Spetember 27th, 2009, the Wii would drop in price to $199.99 from $249.99.
