The Nintendo Game Boy Advance (GBA) was the 32-bit handheld console successor to the Game Boy Color. Released first in Japan on March 21st, 2001, the system came to North America on June 11 of that year. Featuring hardware power comparable to the Super NES, one of this system's greatest attributes was its backward compatability with Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, while also hosting numerous ports of older games, such as Super Mario Advance, Earthworm Jim, Final Fantasy IV Advance, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. The Game Boy Advance was itself later succeeded by the Advance SP, noted for its brighter screen. The GBA measured 3.2 inches tall by 5.69 inches wide by 0.97 inches thick, weighed 5 ounces, and featured a 2.9 inch, 240 x 160 resolution screen. Running on 2 AA batteries, it gave approximately 15 hours of game time.
