The Nintendo DS Lite is the successor to the original DS handheld game system, having as its main difference a markedly brighter screen. Released in North America on June 11th, 2006, it is Nintendo's current handheld system and the flagship product of its line. The Lite contains many more improvements over the original DS model, including increased battery life (five to eight hours on the brightest screen setting), lighter weight, a larger stylus, different d-pad and button sizes and configurations, and a new microphone location between the top and bottom screens. Available in eleven colors (two more than the DS), the DS Lite features Wi-fi connectivity, and incorporates a version of the popular Opera Internet browser. Players can connect wirelessly with another DS Lite for head-to-head play, and additionally, a USB Wi-fi Connector is available which connects to a PC and operates as a hotspot for up to 5 DS Lites. Another advantage of this system is its backward compatibility with nearly every Game Boy title. The Nintendo DS Lite measures 5.2 inches wide by 2.9 inches tall by 0.9 inches thick, and weighs 7.7 ounces.
