The Xbox 360 Intercooler EX, from Nyko, is an attachment that connects directly to the console, increasing air flow away from the body of the system. Shortly after the release of the Xbox 360, a problem was noted by many gamers. The console was overheating and automatically shutting down, in order to protect the hardware, leaving many users with hours of unsaved progress in a game. With a snap on coupling, the Intercooler EX runs off the Xbox 360's power supply and turns on and off with the console. The unit sports a small enclosure making it ideal for entertainment centers, closed entertainment centers being on of the key concerns with the issue of overheating, with very little need for additional space. The Intercooler functions regardless of the horizontal or vertical arrangement of the console. Although certified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) that the unit does not draw excess power from the console, an early concern of gamers as instilled by Microsoft, issues still remain about the performance of a system using the Intercooler following several Microsoft press releases and a deluge of customer complaints.
