The HD-DVD player for the Microsoft Xbox 360 is a hardware add-on for users’ Xbox 360 consoles which plugs into the rear of the 360 unit via USB 2.0 cable. This allows the playback of HD-DVDs assuming users have the HDMI video cables and a display capable of high definition playback. If users already own an Xbox 360, it’s less expensive to get this add-on than to buy a standalone player, but not if they don’t already own the console. Also the Xbox 360 (and, hence, the HD-DVD player) doesn’t support Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, or DTS-HD soundtracks. This unit comes with a remote control and is a little less than half the size of the Xbox 360 console.
