Facebook officially turns 5 today, and in honor of its half-decade birthday we thought we'd pay tribute to some of our favorite — and least favorite — Facebook applications. Our informal virtual water cooler poll inspired some great debate between those of us who consider Twitter integration with status updates to be the second coming and those who consider it the seventh sign. We also picked the Facebook for iPhone and various flavors of Scrabble clones amongst our top apps, and the zeitgeist of hated apps includes gift giving, zombies, pieces of flair, and SuperPoke -- except for an almost unanimous approval rating for sheep throwing.
Check out our zeitgeist below, and we want to hear from you about your best and worst Facebook apps. Which camp are you in: Get your Twitter out of my Facebook, or bring on the social integration? Has civilization been improved by the wanton throwing of sheep, or is the world clearly at its end? What other apps do you love or hate? Let us know in the comments!
Barb Dybwad
best: Twitter integration. Great time-saver for busy multi-social network nerds.
worst: Top Friends. Can you get more junior high than this? But why do I still have it on my profile...
C.K. Sample
best: Twitter integration
worst: gift giving
Samuel Axon
best: Flixter. I've reviewed almost 2,000 movies on Flixster and have a ton of friends on it. We comment on one another's reviews and have conversations about the merits of the French New Wave and how overrated Fight Club is. You can also check out release dates and compare your movie preferences with friends. A must for any cinema buff.
worst: Twitter integration. Tweets are full of lingo and terminology that are irrelevent on Facebook. On Facebook you're constantly seeing people having conversations with thin air.
Jordan Running
best: My favorite Facebook app is Lexulous (formerly Scrabulous). I also have a weakness for Pieces of Flair.
worst: I'm a horrible person for saying so, but I'm sick of Causes.
Judith Meskill
best: RIP Scrabulous
worst: Hate Lexulous, now use Scrabble - grudgingly - but, it's finally coming up to speed.
Karen Murphy
best: Word twist
worst: Are You Interested? (will they just not get it's "NO!")
Tanner Godarzi
best: I gotta say I love the Facebook for iPhone App, I'm a sucker for native Apps.
worst: I despise graffitti wall Apps of any kind.
Bob Liu
worst: before they pulled it, Burger King
Ryan Carter
worst: Two words: ALL OF THEM! Ok, I like the Warcraft Armory app, and groups.
Tyler Lacoma
best: Scrabble, hoping for something better
worst: Piece of Flair, on the annoyance scale, but come on — there's so much worth losing!
Laura Pope
best:Lexulous
worst: Superpoke
Kevin Harter
best: Facebook for iPhone and Twitter integration
worst: Not too many of the other apps are useful to me — Pillow Fight has to be the worst, though.
Craig Wood
best: ping.fm integration. And every once in awhile I'll throw a sheep at someone.
worst: other than that FB apps scare me.
Veronique Christensen
worst: I could do with a Facebook completely stripped of stupid egg hunts, and vampire zombies.
Mat Bitner
best: Facebook for iPhone
worst: all the awful vampire, pirate, zombies, ninja, werewolf apps.
Rachel Cericola
best: iLike (although they could add a few more music selections under each artist)
worst: Anything that flings a snowball, drink, cause or piece of flair at me.
Brian Alvey
best: I love the iPhone app. I loved Scrabulous until it was pulled. Then I half-assed some Scrabble games and never really got into Lexulous. So really both companies lost me when they fought each other — not that they had any choice.
runner up: targeted ads and the fact that you can vote ads up or down and cycle them to find one you were actually interested in.
worst: Any app I don't think deserves to have access to my info. That's all the vampires, etc. Even "We're related" annoys me. I'd rather use a built-in Facebook "relationships" documenter than someone else's app.
best: Mafia Wars has been good to me. But we had a few days apart, and I realized I was better off without it. Things are still a little uncomfortable between us.
worst: I block a lot of them. I got a huge pile of bumpersticker invites before I finally killed it, though. So, there you go.
best: iPhone App, although I get excited about a good Superpoke every now and then
worst: Anything that claims to be making a charitable donation with my participation this encouraging people to spam me with it every single day. Specifically, (Lil) Green Patch which claims to be saving the rainforest. I get at least 15 plants sent to me a day for this nonsense, and the app itself looks horrible.
I think the only Facebook app I like would be Mafia Wars. Other than that it's just a lot of "zomg put this flower on your green patch!!!!" or whatever it's called. Oh, and I'd be totally OK with never getting another survey request... ever.
I'm with Mike... hate all the awards, flowers, best blog friends in the universe, tell me what you read. I don't use any of the apps.

My favorite app is Photograb -- it's braingames meets photo-sharing. You "play" your friends' photos and (if you're feeling creative) turn your own photos into brain-stimulating mini-games. Still in Beta, Photograb is pioneering a new category of Facebook fun. Check it out: http://apps.facebook.com/photograb
FULL DISCLOSURE: I'm the CEO of Shufflebrain (http://shufflebrain.com) creator of Photograb and other apps that turn your socal media into puzzle games.

iRead and packrat are the best.
iRead lets me keep track of what I read and what I thought of it while sharing it with friends. I also get to see what they read and think.
Packrat is an addictive game where you steal, trade and buy cards to complete sets.
