Samsung's SyncMaster T220 is a 22-inch widescreen LCD display in WSXGA+ 1680 x 1050 resolution. Samsung claims a 20,000:1 contrast ratio, though that's with the help of a dynamic backlight. Without that trick, Samsung rates the T220 at 1,000:1, but testing has placed that figure down in the 800s. Though the numbers may be a little off, it's not a deal-breaker, as reports call the screen more than readable even in bright sunlight. To keep ghosting down, the display sports a 2-millisecond grey-to-grey refresh time.
The screen features an elaborately-styled bezel with color accents, but Samsung seems to have gone overboard in designing an eye-catching exterior, as the sleek, rounded base is apparently prone to wobbling. Although the display itself gets solid marks, the T220 is lacking many of extras and hook-ups its competitors feature. The SyncMaster has no USB ports for desktop devices, no webcam, and no HDMI input, with VGA and DVI the only available options. The T220HD addresses the HDMI issue, adding two ports and an integrated ATSC tuner.
