Google Nexus One and HTC Supersonic 4G smartphone heading to Sprint

Product Details

The Ricoh CX2 follows the Ricoh CX1 with many of the same core features, but with beefed-up specifications. It's a point-and-shoot camera with a 9-megapixel CMOS sensor and the ability to capture dynamic range double shots.

High dynamic range (HDR) images are usually created post-shoot by combining more than one image, each taken at different exposure values (EV). The resulting single image presents the highest dynamic differences held in each of the starting components, thereby creating a photograph with deeper color and greater contrast. While this can be done using many point-and-shoot cameras and some post-production software, the CX2 takes two images nearly simultaneously with different EVs and combines them in-camera.

That's the unique draw of the CX series cameras, but the CX2 also features 10.7x optical zoom lens (compared to the CX1's 7.1x), a 3-inch LCD display, and 5 fps continuous shooting (compared to the CX1's 1 fps). Face detection and auto-focus have also been given a bump.

This camera does not capture video in high definition, unfortunately. You'll get VGA quality instead, but you can record at 120 fps, allowing for the creation of slow motion videos.

The CX2 will go on sale in the United Kingdom for £299.99 ($495), with U.S. pricing and availability yet to be formally announced.
