Product Details
The Ricoh CX1, is a point-and-shoot camera with a 9-megapixel CMOS sensor and the ability to capture dynamic range double shots. The latter of those two features should be particularly interesting to inexperienced users and serious photographers alike.
High dynamic range (HDR) images are usually created post-shoot by combining more than one image, each taken at different exposure values (EV). The resulting single image presents the highest dynamic differences held in each of the starting components, thereby creating a photograph with deeper color and greater contrast. While this can be done using many point-and-shoot cameras and some post-production software, the CX1 takes two images nearly simultaneously with different EVs and combines them in-camera.
That's the unique draw of the camera, but the CX1 also features 7.1x optical zoom lens, 3-inch LCD display, and 7 fps full frame image rapid-fire.
The CX1 does not capture video in high definition. Rather, video is recorded in VGA quality. But the camera can record at 120 frames per second. This opens the door to creating a wide variety of slow motion videos. At around $430, the CX1 is available in black, silver, and pink.
