The Nikon D400 is expected to be the successor to the Nikon D300. While the camera has yet to be announced by Nikon, a variety of details have emerged on the web about the device.

The camera is expected to have a 15.3-megapixel CMOS sensor, an ISO from 200-6400, continuous shooting at six frames per second, and record full high-definition (1080p, 24fps) movies. The D400 is rumored to have a 3-inch LCD with Live View, auto-focus tracking and calibration, a 30% faster Nikon EXPEED Plus image processor, scene recognition, in-camera retouching, a virtual horizon to indicate if your camera is level, and HDMI out so you can watch high-definition movies you shoot directly on your HDTV.

A guidebook for the D400 is expected to start shipping in July of 2009, a page for the camera also supposedly showed up on Nikon's website (and was immediately taken down) in March 2009 indicating a release in the second quarter of 2009 is likely.
