The Canon A580 is a point-and-shoot camera with a 4x optical zoom, one step up from the 3x zoom which is typical of the entry level cameras in its class. It also has Canon's face detection software which can identify, track, and focus on up to 9 different human faces for group shots. The A580 also has automatic correction for ISO balance, motion blur, and an after-capture automatic red eye removal. It also has 12 shooting modes and an 8-megapixel CCD image sensor.
On the downside, the A580 is powered by two AA batteries. You can purchase rechargeable versions, but it comes with disposable batteries included. Additionally, the camera has no internal memory and only comes equipped with a 32MB MMC+ card, so you will likely have to purchase additional storage media for this device.
