The iPad has landed.

Released on March 3, 2009, the new Apple Mac Pro desktop computers come in two models: one featuring a single 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 3500 series processor with 8MB of L3 cache with 3GBs of RAM (and capable of supporting up to 8GBs of RAM) priced at $2499 and another featuring two 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 3500 series processors with 8MB of shared L3 cache and 6GBs of RAM (and capable of supporting up to 32GBs of RAM) priced at $3299. Both models feature a 640GB hard drive, an NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 graphics card with 512MB of GDDR3 memory, an 18x SuperDrive with double-layer support (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW), Mini DisplayPort and DVI (dual-link) for video output (although the adapters are sold separately), four PCI Express 2.0 slots, five USB 2.0 ports, four FireWire 800 ports, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Built-in dual 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet, and both models ship with a keyboard and Mighty Mouse. Neither of these two models come with built-in WiFi by default. In addition to these pre-configured models, a variety of built-to order options are available via the Apple Store

As the names of these computers imply, they are aimed at the professional market and have the processing power to work on processor intensive tasks such as video editing, 3-D graphics, and advanced mathematical calculations. Apple has produced a variety of benchmarking tests in various professional level applications on the Mac Pro, although they only compare the Mac Pro to the previous generation of the device, rather than comparing it industry-wide. Additionally, Apple claims that the Mac Pro is the "greenest Mac Pro ever", noting that it is BFR-free and PVC-free (internal cables), constructed of highly recyclable aluminum enclosure, meets ENERGY STAR 5.0 requirements, and is rated EPEAT Go.

On December 4th, 2009, Apple updated the Mac Pro with the option to include a mind-melting 3.33 GHz Xeon processor; it'll only add $1,200 to the default configuration price! If that's too much for you, you can drop $350 instead for a 2 TB hard drive configuration. Or if you're filthy rich, you can do both!
