Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

Following months of rumors that the new iMac would feature both an LED-backlit display and a Blu-ray player, the truth is out: no to Blu-ray, but yes to LED backlighting technology.

This 2009 refresh of the iMac bumps the display size up from that of its predecessor, and changes the aspect ratio to 16:9, the same one used by most televisions. It also lets you connect external devices like DVD players and video game consoles — a first for the iMac line.

The aesthetic has changed a bit; the front is now class from edge to edge just like the MacBook Pro, and the back is made of aluminum instead of plastic. Yep, it's unibody like all the Apple laptops.

Internal specs have seen a boost: you'll find a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4 GB of RAM, a 1 TB hard disk drive, an ATI Radeon HD 4670 discrete GPU, and an SD card slot in the base, $1,699 27-inch model. The higher end, $1,999 model will have a quad-core 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and a much beefier ATI Radeon 4850 graphics card — specs you'd hardly expect in an all-in-one. You can also put up to 16 GB of RAM in either SKU, but obviously that won't be cheap. The screen resolution is 2560 x 1440.

Both models are available for purchase from Apple right now.
