How to do Netflix streaming
The rental service may soon add an all-streaming service. We look at the various ways to get your Netflix fix.

That bright red envelope could soon be a thing of the past. Earlier this week, a Netflix representative said that as early as the end of 2009, his company could offer an all-streaming service plan.
It's really no surprise; Netflix has been kicking the DVD format long before it was down. In late 2007, the U.S. Post Office wanted the service to start shelling out millions for all of its mailing mishaps. In May 2008, they started spewing partnerships for hardware devices that would stream the rental service. Last summer, they started charging another buck each month for Blu-ray rentals. By November came the news that the service would stop selling all of its overstock DVDs.Profile pages: Microsoft, Blu-ray, HDMI, LG, Samsung, 1080p, DVD, USB, Netflix, Microsoft Xbox 360 Pro, Streaming video, Samsung BD-P2500, Samsung BD-P2550, 720p, TiVo, Roku NetFlix Player, TiVo HD, TiVo HD XL, TiVo Series3, Roku, THX, BD-Live, Dolby TrueHD, Ethernet (IEEE 802.3), LG BD300

Are There Deals Down at Circuit City?
The clock is ticking for the retail chain. Who's up for some scrounging?
Home A/V, Computing, Gaming, Mobile | by Rachel Cericola | Thu Feb 19, 2009 11:00AM | 5 comments

Circuit City has been in liquidation mode for about a month. In the beginning, many shoppers were complaining about poor prices and even poorer policies (broken? Too bad). Now that some of the dustbunnies have settled, are there deals to be had? We trekked out to our local CC for a bit of scrounging.
You may be surprised, but there is some product (and shelving!) left. One employee said she had no clue when she would join the growing ranks of the unemployed. "When we're done, I guess," she said. So prices may go down. It's just a question of how much.

The Great DTV Saga: the state of the digital TV transition
Now that the switch date has finally been pushed back, let's take a look at the whole DTV debacle thus far.

If you circled the February 17 digital TV transition date on your calendar, hopefully you didn't use pen.
President Barack Obama signed legislation yesterday, finalizing the DTV move to June 12. This is a good and bad thing. Between Obama's initial response, the Senate, the House, and all of the other DTV drama, this delay has had more "will-they-or-won't-they" moments than all 10 seasons of Ross and Rachel on Friends.
"Millions of Americans, including those in our most vulnerable communities, would have been left in the dark if the conversion had gone on as planned, and this solution is an important step forward as we work to get the nation ready for digital TV," Obama said in a prepared statement.

Must See 3D: Are we there yet?
This week, everyone's talking about 3D tech. Is it another buzzword or actually buzzworthy?
Home A/V | by Rachel Cericola | Thu Feb 5, 2009 10:20AM | 0 comments

This past week, there was a lot of excitement — and it had nothing to do with endless mounds of chicken wings, chili and keg-stands. Many homes had something a little extra next to the standard Super Bowl fare. It wasn't a deli tray, either, but a selection of 3D glasses.
In case you were too busy getting that third helping of wings, last Sunday's Super Bowl spectacular included a few new 3D commercial creations from SoBe Lifewater and the soon-to-be-released DreamWorks film, Monsters vs. Aliens. Each used a process called ColorCode, which presents a stereoscopic image in red and green for the left eye and blue on the right. The end result delivered a few neat, kind of blurry, images popping from the screen. It also meant that your old, dusty 3D glasses from Creature of the Black Lagoon probably didn't create much magic. The very next day, the very same network used 3D to boost ratings for its dramedy Chuck. Some considered the 3D gimmick to be a death knoll for the struggling NBC show. After all, does anyone remember Jaws 3-D? Didn’t think so.

Super Bowl HDTV wins: Score a big game deal on a new set
Kick off the Super Bowl in style, with the best finds on big screen HDTVs.

Are you ready for some football? Probably not if you're planning to watch this weekend's game on a small TV. Trying to watch the Super Bowl on a tiny television is the equivalent of sitting in the last row of Raymond James Stadium, with the Goodyear Blimp buzzing inches from your head. In other words, it may be kind of cool to be part of the experience, but you should plan to miss a lot of the best action.
According to the National Retail Federation, 167 million adults will tune into the Super Bowl this Sunday. Sadly, many of them probably won't watch on a decent-sized TV. Over 9.6 million must agree, because the NRF says that's about the number of people that plan to buy a TV before Sunday's kick off. Unfortunately, there aren't too many deals to be had before the big game. Need a game plan? We took a quick peek and found a few big screens that don't call for a big budget.
