BlackBerry's touchscreen Storm appears on Verizon document [UPDATED x2]
New 9530 touts both EV-DO and HSDPA support as well as a 3.2-megapixel camera.
Mobile | by Jason Karuza | Fri Sep 26, 2008 9:13AM | 1 comment

A leaked Verizon document has revealed details of the new BlackBerry Storm with its long-awaited "click" touchscreen that simulates the feeling of a real keyboard. As indicated on the spec sheet for customer reps, RIM's first touchscreen phone has a will be sporting quad-band GSM -- in addition to standard CDMA -- enabling it to function worldwide. Not surprisingly, the 3.2-megapixel Storm will provide Visual Voicemail, VZ Navigator support, and the usual BlackBerry email services. Unfortunately, no price or availability information is included with the release of these specs. Originally posted on Monday, September 15, 2008 at 1:19PM.
Update 9.23.08: Apparently the final specs of the device have been leaked to CrackBerry by a formerly reliable tipster, who posted that the EV-DO Rev. A / HSUPA-enabled Storm (in other words, dual-3G -- but no WiFi) will feature a multi-touch, multi-gesture screen with 480 x 360 HVGA+ resolution, removable 1400mAh battery, and 1GB ROM / 192MB RAM, in addition to the details mentioned above. Originally posted on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 8:20AM.
Update 9.26.08: Purported screenshots claiming to come from the Storm have been leaked to -- and then pulled from -- a UK enthusiast site (one of which is pictured above, several more are still posted over at the Boy Genius Report). If these images are indeed accurate, they may be somewhat of a disappointment to users who were expecting something like an iPhone experience, as the design is heavy on text and light on aesthetic enhancements.

It appears that these drives won't be making their way stateside in the foreseeable future.

Anonymous sources at HP have been hinting to Business Week about the possibility of a Linux-based OS being developed to combat Windows Vista. The sources indicate that the new OS would be based on a well-known version of Linux, but with modifications to enhance its mainstream appeal. When asked to confirm the rumors, company CTO Phil McKinney claimed no knowledge of such development, instead emphasizing the efforts of a special nine-month-old team assembled to enhance certain media features of Vista.[Via CNET]
