Head to head: BlackBerry Storm vs. Apple iPhone 3G
BlackBerry afficionados will get their first touchscreen fix in the Storm, about to be released in the US on Verizon this Friday, November 21. How does the device stack up against Apple's top-selling touchscreen smartphone? Both devices include GPS, robust web browsing and extensive media playback capabilities. Notable features the Storm wields over the iPhone include the removable battery, stereo Bluetooth support for listening to tunes wirelessly, a spring-loaded touchscreen that actually provides tactile feedback on button presses, a higher-resolution 3.2-megapixel camera with built-in flash, digital zoom, and video recording capability, and cut and paste functionality. The Storm lacks WiFi support and, although it can take advantage of a number of third-party applications, misses out on the refined user experience of browsing and installing apps iPhone users enjoy via the App Store — at least until March 2009 when RIM is slated to launch its own BlackBerry Application Center.

Netbooks compared
These diminutive sub-notebooks have become the unexpected sales hit of the laptop market. Asus kicked off the trend with its original Eee PC, and following the popularity of that device other manufacturers have been scrambling to make their entry into the netbook market. Though underpowered compared to more full-featured workhorse laptops, netbooks offer low cost and high portability in exchange. Popular with hackers as cheap and useful computing toys, netbooks are also extremely useful as a secondary device or complement to a main setup, or as a lightweight machine to keep in a bag for easily accessible web browsing or note taking at all times; we also think they'd make great first computers for kids. Check out some of the currently available netbook options in the following comparator and let us know if we're missing your favorite.
