Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

Motorola is finally getting a proper smartphone operating system by adopting Google's Android for its Cliq model. The Cliq uses a customized version of Android called Motoblur. Motoblur's front page displays social networking widgets that display data from Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and your RSS feeds.

Additionally, the phone numbers stored in the device can be associated with social networking profiles, so when you receive a call from a friend you see his or her Facebook status and other information.

The Cliq has a 3.1-inch 320 x 480 screen, a 5-megapixel camera, video capture capabilities, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It will be available in white and metallic colors when it launches in the fourth quarter of 2009. Pricing hasn't been announced.

You can pick this phone up from the T-Mobile website or in retail stores today—it officially launched November 2nd. It costs $199.99 with a 2-year contract.
