Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

At MWC 2009, LG's Marketing Manager Jeremy Newing told T3 that the LG KS360 would be repurposed and re-released in the summer of 2009 as LG's first Google Android-based smartphone (he was apparently incorrect, as the U.S. version of the Neon does not run Android). The LG KS360 is mobile phone aimed at the youth market and heavy text-messaging users featuring a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and touchscreen dialing. It comes in a variety of two-tone color schemes: black with red or silver, white with pink, or titanium with blue. Its face sports a number of buttons but lacks a keypad - for dialing its 2.4-inch touchscreen is used, but unfortunately the touch interface starts and ends there.

Software features include threaded text messaging, which shows your entire SMS conversation on one screen, and, carrier depending, Facebook, MySpace, and Bebo integration. Its camera can snap two-megapixel photos and record video. For media playback MP3 and AAC audio and MPEG4 and H.263 video are supported. The KS360 has 128 MB of internal memory, and a microSD slot allows expansion up to 4 GB. Finally, LG has thrown in an FM radio and stereo Bluetooth.

The LG KS360 is currently offered by Orange in the UK, and AT&T has launched the Neon in the U.S., with a black and green paint job for $29.99 on contract after rebate.
